The problem with RSVPs in chats
Most Singapore couples send their invites on WhatsApp. It's where everyone is, from your colleagues to your aunties. The replies are the hard part.
"Can come!" arrives in one chat. "Will try" arrives in another. Someone's husband answers for the whole family in a voice note. Then you copy it all into a spreadsheet, chase the people who haven't replied, and message everyone again a month later to ask about dietary needs.
Three ways to collect RSVPs on WhatsApp
1. Send a message and track replies yourself
Message each guest, or use a broadcast list, and ask them to reply yes or no. Log the answers in a spreadsheet.
- Free, no setup
- Works for every guest
- Replies come in every format
- You do all the typing
- Easy to lose track of who hasn't answered, or how many are coming with them
2. Share a Google Form link
Make a form, then send the same link to everyone.
- Free
- Answers land in one sheet automatically
- Guests type their own names, so spellings vary and some submit twice
- You still match each answer to your list by hand
- Working out who hasn't replied is still manual
3. Send each guest their own RSVP link
Every guest gets a link that already knows who they are.
- Each reply goes straight to the right person on your list
- You can see who's pending and remind only them
- Plus-ones, dietary needs and menu picks in one go
- Needs a tool to create the links
- Usually not free
How SeatMe does it
- A personal link for every guest. From your guest list, one tap opens WhatsApp with a message already written for that guest, including their own link. You send it from your own number, so it comes from you. No number for someone? Copy their link and send it however you like.
- A proper invitation in the chat. WhatsApp shows a preview card with your names, date and venue, so it doesn't look like a random link.
- Replies land in your guest list. Attending or not, who's coming with them, and dietary needs update by themselves. No retyping.
- Easy nudges. See at a glance who's still pending and send each of them a reminder in one tap. Closer to the day, confirmed guests can get a reminder too.
- Menu choices. Having a plated dinner? Set your courses and options, and each guest picks their own, plus-ones included. You get totals by table for the caterer.
Frequently asked questions
Can guests bring plus-ones?
Yes, if you allow it. You set the maximum group size for your event, and guests add the people coming with them. Names are optional, and each person can add their own dietary needs and menu choice.
Do guests need to download an app?
No. The RSVP link opens in the phone's browser. There is no app to download, no sign-up and no password.
Can I set an RSVP deadline?
Yes. The RSVP page shows "Please RSVP by" your date. After the deadline the form closes, and anyone who hasn't replied is asked to contact you directly.
What if a guest changes their mind?
They open the same link and tap "Change my response" any time before your deadline. Your guest list updates automatically.
Does SeatMe send the WhatsApp messages for me?
No. Messages go out from your own WhatsApp, one tap per guest, with the text already written. It stays personal, and nothing is sent without you.
